Four of the SHOWCASE artists talked about their work in the Hastings Arts Forum. We listened intently to Kathleen Mullaniff telling us about the Lace Factory and its history. We heard from Heather Collins about her journey to making these intricate textile pieces, some of which take 6 months to make. Sarah Heenan spoke of her own art history and how the huge sculpture developed from her memories of hiding under the stairs as a child. Helen Scalway is interested in habitation and the process of developing work.
About the process of the SHOWCASE which has included a proposal from artists, two meetings to discuss their work and its development, the Questionnaire for artists, plus the curation and the discussion event, Helen Scalway commented: “SHOWCASE has ploughed a deeper furrow”. The artists say they have both enjoyed and benefited from meeting up with and talking with each other.
